Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, yet many tribal communities in India continue to face significant challenges in obtaining the medical care they need. The India Tribal Care Trust (ITCT) has made it a priority to address these healthcare disparities and ensure that tribal populations receive the support and services necessary for their well-being.
At ITCT we have been organizing regular health camps in remote tribal villages through donations from various donors. 2 years back, we collaborated with ISCKON and IDRF(USA) and ran Mobile Medical Van service in remote tribal areas of Jhargram, which benefitted more than 16,000 tribals through free treatment and medicines. In 2023, our health camps got a boost when the Health & Family Welfare Department of the Government of West Bengal sanctioned free medicines to India Tribal Care Trust for distribution in our heath camps. Since them more than 25 health camps has been organized and 2500 poor tribal got benefitted from these health camp.
Healthcare Infrastructure and Services:
The ambulance service is a lifeline for the tribal communities in the area of Ayodha Hill, Prurlia , providing emergency medical care and transportation to hospitals for those in need. The ambulance service is equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed by trained professionals who are dedicated to saving lives and providing timely care.
In addition to the ambulance service, ITCT has launched a mobile healthcare service in Jhargram, in collaboration with the Indian Development and Relief Fund (IDRF) and ISKCON. This mobile healthcare unit travels to remote villages, offering medical check-ups, treatments, and health education to tribal populations who otherwise have limited access to healthcare facilities. The mobile unit is a critical resource in preventing and treating common illnesses, as well as addressing more serious health concerns.
Bhaktivedanta National School with Healthcare Facilities:
ITCT’s commitment to healthcare extends beyond immediate medical services. In Barhait, located in the Sahibganj district, ITCT is nearing the completion of the Bhaktivedanta National School, which will include healthcare facilities. This integration of education and healthcare is designed to provide a holistic approach to the well-being of tribal children, ensuring that they receive not only an education but also the medical care they need to thrive.
The school’s healthcare facilities will offer regular health check-ups, dental care, and vaccinations, helping to prevent and manage health issues among the students. By addressing health concerns early, ITCT is ensuring that children are healthy, active, and able to fully participate in their education.
Health Education and Awareness:
Recognizing the importance of preventive care, ITCT also focuses on health education and awareness programs. These initiatives are designed to educate tribal communities about hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and the importance of regular medical check-ups. Health education is a vital component of ITCT’s healthcare strategy, empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health and the health of their families.
Future Plans for Healthcare Expansion:
ITCT is committed to expanding its healthcare services in the coming years. Plans are already underway to extend healthcare services to all districts where ITCT operates, ensuring that no tribal community is left without access to medical care. In addition, ITCT is exploring partnerships with other organizations to enhance its healthcare initiatives and bring even more resources to the communities we serve.
